Former RTE producer Kieran Creaven arrested by gardai in North Dublin

The former RTE producer who was jailed after being caught trying to groom who he thought was a young girl has been arrested in Dublin.

Kieran Creaven, who was caged in the UK in 2018, was arrested by gardai in North Dublin on Wednesday in connection with an investigation into alleged sexual exploitation of children in the Far East and Ireland.

Creaven was sentenced to 18 months in jail in March 2018 after travelling to Leeds to meet who he thought was a 13-year-old girl he groomed on Facebook.

He pleaded guilty to the charge of attempting to meet a girl under the age of 16 following grooming.

The person he was engaging with online with was in fact an adult member of vigilante group Predator Exposure.

Members of group cornered Creaven outside the Queens Hotel in Leeds on November 18, 2017, when he was expecting to meet the 'girl' he'd been grooming online.

The former RTE producer only served half his sentence and returned to Ireland earlier this year.

Gardai confirmed they arrested the man on Wednesday in connection with the Child Trafficking Pornography Act.

A spokesman said: "A man in his late 50s was arrested yesterday 16th October 2019 in relation to the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998.

"He was detained in a Dublin Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and later released. A file will be prepared for the DPP."
