A former royal chef has revealed the “comfort food” dishes Princess Diana loved to feed sons William and Harry.
The former worker in the royal household has opened up about his previous work, revealing the traditional dinners the late Princess would opt to serve up for the children.
And far from posh dinners, he has revealed she would opt for “unfussy” comfort foods to nourish her children with.
In a video shared to his YouTube channel, ex royal cook Darren McGrady, said their favourite dish was spaghetti bolognaise.
McGrady said the boys would call it 'Spaggy Bol' and it was always a favourite in the royal household.
Darren explains in the video that that he would make the dish in the traditional way, mixing up a load of minced beef, before adding onion, celery, carrot and beef bouillon cubes.
He would then serve the mix up for the boys with either spaghetti noodles or rice, and then to thicken up the sauce would often use flour.
He said: “When she [Diana] was entertaining, especially if she had the boys home, William and Harry, I had to change the menu to make it nursery friendly so that the boys would like it - comfort food that they would like, but a dish to two that she would like too.
“I used to puree vegetables for them as babies and as they got older would make all their favourite nursery foods and comfort foods.”
And cooking isn’t the only thing the chef would do in the kitchen, as he revealed he would often be drawn into the boys games around the castle such as hide and seek.
He revealed: “They used to play hide and seek, Harry would hide in a cabinet and William would come in hunting for him, ''Have you seen Harry, have you seen Harry'', and sometimes they would help cook...that never went too well.'
And continuing on about the boys shenanigans, he spoke of a fun story involving both boys playing a prank.
He said: “One time at Christmas the boys had been given pump action water guns, they came running into the kitchen firing them and everybody got soaked, we weren't prepared.
“We decided we were going to get them back, a few days later we went into nearby King's Lynn and found some pump action water guns and raced back to the palace.
“But walking across the lawn a policeman saw us, he said ''What are you doing? Take those guns back to your room'' and my friend Arthur said ''Oh we're going to shoot William and Harry'.”
As well as spaghetti bolognaise, the chef also revealed a favourite of Princess Diana’s - overnight oats.
He said: “They’re very popular now, but Princess Diana was eating them before they became all the rage.”
