Former Royal British Legion club in Bristol to reopen as a massive sports bar

A building once used by a branch of the Royal British Legion in Bristol will reopen as a massive sports bar.

The site in Meriton Street, St Philip's Marsh, was where members of the St Silas Branch met for a few pints and a catch-up, before it closed two years ago due to dwindling use.

But new life is being breathed into the building by four friends, who are just one week away from reopening it as Supreme Sports Lounge.

The spacious, 300-capacity venue will boast 12 pool tables, four dartboards, a skittle alley and plenty of screens to watch all the action.

Offering fresh food and a range of drinks from a well-stocked bar, the group of friends behind the project also hope to add more dartboards and snooker tables upstairs after the venue has found its feet.

"The Royal British Legion lads are chuffed that their old club is reopening," said Steve Hall, 50, one of the four local businessmen behind the venture.

"Although it'll be very different to what it was before, a lot of them can't drive so they've had nowhere to go since the club closed. They're delighted that will soon change.

"Supreme Sports Lounge will be a place for everyone, whether it's people who have never picked up a cue or dart before or players on the verge of going pro.

"There's been loads of interest in it already with pool and dart teams from all over Bristol asking to use the facility.

"It's important to have places like this in the city, especially with so many pubs closing."

Steve added the bar, which he is running with Neil Partridge, Sam Clothier and talented snooker player Nick Hawkins, will be cheaper than other sports bars, with the food prepared by a 'decent chef' also expected to be reasonable.

When will it open?

Initially the quartet will only renting the premises from its current landlord but hope to buy it in the future to really make it their own.

They have spent around £150,000 on carrying out the refurbishment, which has proved a much bigger job than the "fresh lick of paint" they were first anticipating, added Steve, who used to run the Pockets snooker club in Bedminster in the 90s.

They are hopeful the venue will be up and running on Saturday, March 14.
