Former Royal aid reveals Queen will probe racism claims by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

The Queen’s Scots former adviser said the monarchy will probe the racism crisis triggered by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview.

Mary MacLeod - a former Tory MP and an ex-policy advisor to Queen Elizabeth II - said the Palace had responded in a “careful and thoughtful” way to the race issues raised by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in their interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Buckingham Palace has said the racism allegations were “concerning” and “taken very seriously” while they claimed “recollections may vary” but the matters would be addressed privately.

In a broadcast interview, Mrs MacLeod, who served as policy advisor to the Queen and the Royal Household at Buckingham Palace on PR, communications and strategic change, said: “The response from the Queen was very caring and thoughtful and showed a real understanding of what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been through.

“Their experiences were very real to them and now they have spoken about them, I hope they can end up with a very positive future and also rebuild and strengthen their family relationship.

“The Queen said they will always be much loved family members. There are no particular winners from the interview but there may be a greater understanding as we learn the full extent of how challenging times have been for them.

“Of course, the Queen doesn’t condone racism. The Queen did a very personal statement and I think that is the situation right now and it will be dealt with as she means what she says.

“They will look into it.”

The news comes after Meghan told Oprah that Harry had been asked by an unnamed family member “how dark” their son Archie’s skin might be. The Palace said the Sussexes would “always be much loved family members”.

The response from Buckingham Palace came after a series of crisis meetings involving senior royals.
