Former Ross County and Dundee manager Jim McIntyre set to enter running for Ayr United job

Jim McIntyre is set to throw his hat in the ring for the vacant Ayr United job, the Ayrshire Post understands.

The former Ross County boss is keen to get back into management after being sacked by Dundee in May.

And he is understood to be very interested in the position at Somerset Park.

McIntyre, 47, is among the early front runners to replace Ian McCall after he quit for Partick.

It leaves Ayr without a manager but joint top of the Championship ahead of Saturday's trip to Arbroath.

McIntyre was in the stand as Ayr routed Alloa 4-1 on Saturday to keep pace with leaders Dundee United.

First team coach Sandy Stewart has been handed interim charge of the first team with senior player Mark Kerr.

Stewart is currently 3/1 favourite to land the job full time, with Peter Houston 5/1 second favourite.

Former Ayr player John Hughes is next in at 6/1 while current East Fife boss Darren Young is offered at 7/1.
