FORMER River City actor Iain Robertson has been jailed for nine years for a series of sexual and violent offences.
The former TV star was convicted last month of a total of five offences, including rape and assault, against a number of women in Glasgow between 2004 and 2019.
The rape occurred some time between 2018 and 2019. During the trial at the High Court in Glasgow, the woman told the court Robertson had sex with her despite her making clear she was not consenting, and described going “limp” when he was on top of her.
Giving evidence during the trial, Robertson said he was “no angel” but denied any wrongdoing.
Robertson said he is “aware” of when a woman is consenting to sex, and that he is “sensitive” enough to know about non-verbal communication.
However, the jury found him guilty of rape, along with four other charges.
Robertson, 45, was sentenced to nine years in prison at the High Court in Edinburgh on Thursday.
Detective Inspector Lyndsay Laird said: “Robertson subjected the victims to years of horrific abuse, causing lasting trauma and having a profound impact on their lives.
"Violence and abuse of any kind have no place in society and we remain committed to supporting victims and bringing those responsible to justice.
"I would encourage anyone who has experienced sexual abuse or violence to report it to police. Every report will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated."
