Former RGC captain Maredydd Francis charged with GBH after attacking a police officer

Former RGC captain Maredydd Francis, 25, is accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent against a police officer in Wrexham.

Francis was remanded in custody by Mold magistrates and will appear at Mold Crown Court on September 6 after PC Richard Priamo was left unconscious on Saturday night.

The officer, from the roads policing unit, was attempting to make an arrest in Southsea at around 8:00pm on Saturday when Francis allegedly assaulted him.

PC Priamo was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital, where he remains.

Yesterday, Chief Inspector Jeff Moses of North Wales Police said: “Our thoughts remain with the officer and his family as we continue to investigate the incident.

"Assaults on officers whilst carrying out their lawful duties are never acceptable. They are out there, working hard to protect the most vulnerable and to keep people safe."
