Former Redskins WR Maurice Harris waived by Patriots

A familiar name at wide receiver just hit the open market.

The New England Patriots waived former Washington Redskins wideout Maurice Harris about a week before final cuts, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Harris suffered an injury this month and the availability angle seemed to push him out the door after a strong summer in Foxboro. That, combined with the emergences of guys like Jakobi Meyers and the return of Josh Gordon probably made this an easy decision.

The Redskins didn’t offer a restricted tender to Harris this offseason after his three years with the team produced one touchdown. He struggled over 12 games last year with bigger names injured and out.

Still, if Harris gets healthy and the Redskins need some help, he’s at least a name to keep in mind, perhaps during the first month of the season, should the injury bug strike again.
