Former Redskins WR Josh Doctson went unclaimed on waivers

It always seemed like Josh Doctson was destined to hit free agency.

The Washington Redskins couldn’t find a trade partner for their former first-round pick, so Doctson hit the waiver wire. It turns out every other team in the league took a pass.

That in part might explain why the Redskins couldn’t make a trade work. Whether it is Doctson’s production or simply the rookie contract teams didn’t want to inherit isn’t clear.

Either way, Doctson finishes his Redskins career with 81 catches for 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns over 33 games, averaging just 33.3 yards per game.

Given he turns 27 this season, Doctson might have missed his chance for a breakout, though a change of scenery could always trump such an idea. Even though he went unclaimed, he’s bound to be on a roster sooner or later.
