Former Redskins safety D.J. Swearinger lands with Raiders

About a year ago, the Washington Redskins and D.J. Swearinger were clearly headed toward a split.

Swearinger ended up getting cut and going to the Arizona Cardinals, where he lasted all of four games.

Now he’s on to the Oakland Raiders in the wake of a Karl Joseph injury, per ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez. Swearinger didn’t hold up in coverage over the four starts with the Cardinals but the Raiders are desperate.

A year ago, the Redskins ended up cutting the veteran because of comments he made about the team. He’s since opened up about the mistakes he made there.

Swearinger’s unexpected cut despite a rather strong season last year created a domino effect of sorts that helped nudge the Redskins toward paying up for Landon Collins in free agency.

At the time it didn’t 100 percent seem smart to move a producer like Swearinger, but it seems to have worked out so far.
