Former Redskins pass rusher Preston Smith putting on a show with Packers

The Washington Redskins let one get away in free agency this offseason with pass rusher Preston Smith.

With other financial obligations and an eventual move back up in the draft to get Montez Sweat, the Redskins seemed set after Smith’s ho-hum time with the team.

Now he’s playing incredible ball with the Green Bay Packers.

Through three games — all wins for the Packers — Smith has 4.5 sacks, an interception and a forced fumble. Three of those came this week during a win over the Denver Broncos.

Smith had eight sacks in a season twice for the Redskins but never blossomed into that megastar the Redskins wanted to pay like one of the top pass rushers in the NFL.

Given his early success so far though and the lack of noise from Sweat (granted, he’s learning on the fly against elite lines), it’s likely another mark from fans against the Redskins front office, at least for now.
