A FORMER Rebels bikie who supplied nearly 1.9kg of MDMA and 1.3kg of methamphetamine, including 2000 MDMA tablets to his 60-year-old mother, has been jailed for a maximum of eight-and-half years in Newcastle District Court.
Leighton Scott Cowley, now 36, supplied large quantities of MDMA and methamphetamine between January and May, 2019, raking in more than $70,000.
But due to an ongoing drug problem and gambling addiction, the now former Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang member has nothing to show for it, Newcastle District Court heard on Friday.
Cowley, Leon Gibbons and Jack Laidlaw were arrested in April and May, 2019, by Strike Force Raptor detectives investigating the large commercial supply of MDMA and ice in the Hunter.
Cowley supplied a total of 1890 grams of MDMA over five occasions between February and March and 1351.74 grams of methamphetamine during six separate supplies between January and May. He received a total of $73,000.
But there was one large package - 2000 MDMA tablets - that never reached its destination.
Cowley's mother, Janine Cowley, who will be sentenced for her role in the operation later this month, was acting as a courier, transporting the drugs strapped to the bottom of her car when she hit a kangaroo, sending the blue tablets cascading all over the highway.
Gibbons was jailed for a maximum of four-and-a-half years in April for supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug, while Laidlaw was jailed for a maximum of three years and nine months in May.
