Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has handed Manchester United a major Erling Haaland transfer boost.
United are interested in the striker after initially missing out on him in January 2020 when he moved from RB Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund.
His sensational form at Dortmund has only strengthened transfer links to other clubs, with Haaland's previous working relationship with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Molde seen as a key reason why United may be able to land the Norwegian international.
Yet there are plenty of other clubs that have been linked with the 20-year-old, including Spanish giants Real Madrid - although Haaland himself has maintained he is happy with his contract at Dortmund.
Los Blancos have been hit hard financially by the coronavirus pandemic, however, and Calderon has indicated the club will not be able to spend big this summer.
With Haaland's release clause at Borussia Dortmund not kicking in until next year, that would seemingly rule Zinedine Zidane's side out of the running to sign the striker this year.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Calderon said that, whilst Real Madrid will continue to monitor top players, the money spent on developing their Bernabeu Stadium means there will not be many transfer funds available this summer.
"There are always rumours at this time of the season," he said.
"They are talking about Mbappe, Haaland… too many players.
“We are not in the best form economically-speaking because we are refurbishing our stadium spending a lot of money.
"It will be difficult to spend money in the summer.
"We always try to sign good players, we’ve been doing that for years."
