Former Real Madrid man gives verdict on Eder Militao amid Tottenham transfer links

Former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder Steve McManaman has been talking about Tottenham’s reported interest in defender Eder Militao.

Reports in Spain claim that Jose Mourinho has made contact about a possible summer move for the central defender, having identified him as a potential replacement for Jan Vertonghen who is out of contact at the end of the campaign.

Militao arrived at the Bernabeu from Porto in the summer but has fallen down the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane and could be on the move just 12 months after joining the club.

Ex-Real Madrid player Mcmanaman has hinted that a move for the 22-year-old would be a good move for Real Madrid’s side.

“His debut season in Madrid has been virtually nothing hasn’t it?” he told horseracing.net.

“I was really impressed with him last season for Porto and I thought he was an excellent central defender.

“Porto and the Portugese league is different to playing in Spain with Real Madrid, but when I saw his performances in the Champions League, to me it made sense that Real Madrid had bought him.

“The thing that’s hampered Militao at Madrid is that when Zinedine Zidane went back to the Bernabeu he returned to his trusted back four who he thinks he can rely on.

“For the likes of Eder Militao and Ferland Mendy who joined Real Madrid in the summer, they’ve found becoming a permanent fixture in the starting eleven difficult.

“I think Militao was an excellent central defender at Porto and I think that’s the best time to judge him. I think the change of manager at Real Madrid has probably hindered him if I’m being honest, like it’s hindered a lot of their new signings.”

It is claimed that Militao could cost in the region of £70 million, but it is claimed that Real Madrid could drop their asking price later in the window.
