Former RBS banker appointed as director at European investment firm

Former Royal Bank of Scotland executive Alexandra Schaapveld is to join the board of investment firm 3i Group.

The Dutch banker was RBS's head of global banking and markets in Western Europe in 2008 after her employer ABN AMRO became part of the group.

Oxford-educated Schaapveld will join 3i as a non-executive director from 1 January 2020. She is on the supervisory boards of Societe Generale S.A., Vallourec S.A. and The Netherlands Development Finance Company and a non-executive director of Bumi Armada Berhad in Malaysia.

3i invests mainly in mid-market private equity and infrastructure. Chairman Simon Thompson said: "We are very pleased to announce Alexandra's appointment to 3i's board.

"She brings extensive financial services expertise in a number of important markets for 3i and significant board experience in a variety of sectors."

Schaapveld said: "I am very pleased to be joining 3i as the company continues to focus on successfully executing its strategic plan. 3i has a strong management team, a strong institutional franchise and is well placed to continue to generate value for its shareholders."
