Former Ravens WR Michael Crabtree signs 1-year deal with Cardinals

It took a while to get done but former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Michael Crabtree has found himself a new home for the 2019 NFL season. The Arizona Cardinals announced they signed Crabtree to a one-year deal today.

Crabtree’s signing comes a few weeks after he worked out for Arizona. They had given him a contract offer but he turned it down. Crabtree joins former Baltimore outside linebacker Terrell Suggs, who signed with the Cardinals this offseason as a free agent. The Ravens will see both Crabtree and Suggs again in Week 2 when the two teams square off in the regular season.

Crabtree didn’t earn a lot of interest on the free-agent market after Baltimore released him this offseason. While Crabtree might not be the top receiver he once was, he fared decently well with the Ravens last season. In spite of Baltimore transitioning to a run-heavy offense under then-rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson, Crabtree caught 54 passes for 607 yards and three touchdowns.

However, Crabtree had issues with frequent drops last season. It’s likely the primary reason Baltimore moved on from him this offseason just one year into a three-year deal. The Ravens have gutted their wide receiver corps two years in a row for a similar issue, moving on from Jeremy Maclin, Mike Wallace and Breshad Perriman in addition to Crabtree.
