Former Baltimore Ravens backup quarterback Ryan Mallett has been out of football for the last two seasons but will pick back up in 2020. Mountain Home high school announced Mallett will be joining their coaching staff.
“I could not be more excited about joining the Mountain Home school district,” Mallett said in an interview with KTLO. “Coaching and teaching is something I knew I’d eventually get into and I can’t think of a better place to start than here. It’s an amazing community and I’m glad I get to call it home now.”
Mallett was originally selected in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He was traded to the Houston Texans in 2014, becoming their starting quarterback for two games before a torn pectoral muscle saw him end the season on injured reserve. Mallett struggled the following season, battling for the starting job with Brian Hoyer, eventually getting released after being late to team meetings and missing a team flight.
With Joe Flacco suffering a knee injury that ended his 2015 season prematurely, the Ravens brought in Mallett to bolster the team’s quarterback depth. Mallett ended up going 1-1 as a starter that season, completing 59.8% of his passes for 566 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He would be brought back in 2016 and 2017 as a backup for Flacco, seeing only a handful of attempts over those two years.
