Former Ravens OLB Elvis Dumervil coming back to speak to rookies at OTAs

The Baltimore Ravens regularly have special guests pop in during OTAs and training camp. Think of it almost as a school assembly of sorts. It’s an opportunity to get the players a little break in what can be a long summer.

This year is no different — former Ravens outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil is coming back to Baltimore to speak to the rookies.

Dumervil retired last year after an impressive 11-year career that included four seasons with the Ravens. Dumervil finished his career with 105.5 sacks, 367 combined tackles, 13 fumble recoveries, one interception, five Pro Bowl nominations and two All-Pro nods.

Bringing in Dumervil is a great choice for a Baltimore roster that lost a number of high-profile leaders this offseason. Safety Eric Weddle and linebackers Terrell Suggs and C.J. Mosley are no longer on the team, with the Ravens looking to several young players to step up. With an impressive career both on and off the field, Dumervil is someone the young players will likely listen to earnestly.

It also doesn’t hurt that Dumervil played outside linebacker — currently the weakest unit on Baltimore’s defense. With a number of new additions and young players needing to break out, having Dumervil be a mentor, even for a day, is a real positive.
