Former Rangers winger Fraser Aird slams home brilliant goal for Canadian side FC Edmonton

The 2021/22 campaign hasn't even started yet and we might already have a contender for goal of the season after former Rangers winger Fraser Aird lit up Canadian football over the weekend with an outstanding long-range strike.

The ex-Gers, Dundee United and Falkirk playmaker is currently plying his trade in his homeland for FC Edmonton, and was making only his second appearance in the Canadian Premier League in Sunday night's clash at home to York United.

After a pretty uneventful previous 51 minutes in Winnipeg, Aird conjured up a moment of outstanding power and precision as he managed to guide the ball into the top corner from all of 35-yards, leaving York's helpless goalkeeper and defenders absolutely stunned:

Sadly for Aird, the magnificent effort didn't prove to be the winning goal, with the visitors claiming a 1-1 draw, leaving Aird and his Edmonton team-mates third in the Canadian Premier League after claiming four points from their opening three matches.

Speaking to the Edmonton Sun after the final whistle, a beaming Aird explained: "I do it in training all the time, so it’s nice that people actually get to see it live, so I’ll take it.

“It just kept opening up for me and I didn’t get that chance (to shoot) throughout the game, and the defenders kept dropping, so I thought I would hit it, if you don’t shoot you don’t score."
