Former Rangers store in Glasgow city centre put up for auction after restaurant permission granted

A vacant shop that formerly housed a Rangers store in the heart of Glasgow city centre has been put up for auction.

Earlier this summer we reported the St Enoch Square property could be transformed into a new 'quality' restaurant under new plans, with the proposal published on the Glasgow City Council planning website.

A few months earlier, the retail unit had been put up for sale and advertised on commercial property websites.

Now marketed by Future Property Auctions, the premises will go up for auction later this week, on Thursday August 25, with a guide price set at £536,000. The property agent confirmed the application to turn the unit into a restaurant has been granted by the council.

Plans to convert the site into a new restaurant were seeking a change of 'use of retail unit (class 1) to a restaurant (class 3) and stated: "The property has been vacant for some time having been previously occupied by a Rangers FC outlet.

"The proposed development will see this vacant property transformed into a quality restaurant occupying both ground and basement floors.

"It is anticipated that the opening hours will be 10am - midnight seven days a week.

"The proposed development represents a wonderful opportunity to deliver a quality eating experience in this well known square and in the process energise this part of the city centre and contribute to the range and variety of services, activities and experiences which the city can offer.

"The proposed development will not only introduce a new dining experience into this part of the city centre but will in the process enliven the streetscape and create a dynamic and interesting venue."

An operator for the potential new restaurant wasn't named in the plans.
