Former Rangers starlet and Kilmarnock schoolkid 'best on park' according to Chelsea boss Frank Lampard

Billy Gilmour saw praise heaped on him last night as he made his first Chelsea start in a 7-1 Carabao Cup win over Grimsby.

The former Grange Academy and Stanley Primary pupil put in a man of the match performance according to his gaffer Frank Lampard.

Lampard said: "From Billy Gilmour it was a fantastic full debut, he ran the game from midfield.

"I thought he was possibly the best player on the pitch.

"He moves the ball at a pace, every pass he hits is punchy and into people's feet, so I'm delighted for him.

"Marc Guehi was solid and they have deserved their starts from the way they train with us and the way they play for the Under-23s.

"They have been outstanding this year.

"Now the hard-work really begins to try and get in there regularly and show they are worthy of being in the squad."
