Former Rangers star reignites Steven Gerrard feud with loaded claim about Frank Lampard relationship

Former Liverpool star El Hadji Diouf has reignited his long-running feud with Steven Gerrard by claiming the current England team is thriving because it isn't beset by internal feuding.

The 42-year-old is now special advisor with Senegal and is gearing up for one of the biggest games in his country's history when they face the Three Lions on Sunday night with a World Cup quarter-final place up for grabs. While many within the Senegal camp are laser-focused on defeating Gareth Southgate's side - Diouf couldn't resist the chance to stick the boot into his old Liverpool team-mate.

The former Rangers boss and the man who spent six months at Ibrox have long had a strained relationship with Gerrard left miffed over Diouf's dedication to Liverpool cause during two ill-fated years at Anfield. Diouf has never been shy in sticking the boot into both Gerrard and his Anfield right-hand man Jamie Carragher. And the Senegal icon couldn't resist referencing Gerrard's long-term battle with Frank Lampard during the golden generation.

Speaking ahead of the clash with England, he said: “England have a good team and a very good team spirit.

“It’s not like with Stevie G and Frank Lampard, when the two of them didn’t like each other, it’s about team spirit and Southgate did a great job. On Sunday it’s not about the best team winning it, it’s the one with the strongest mentality and team spirit who are going to win it.”
