Former Rangers star Kyle Lafferty's heartwarming cash gesture as his Norwegian side Sarpsborg avoid relegation

Former Rangers and Hearts striker Kyle Lafferty has shared his bumper bonus for escaping relegation with his team mates at his Norwegian club.

The 32-year-old surprisingly joined Sarpsborg in August in a desperate bid to save them from relegation. The Northern Ireland international was on a substantial personal bonus if he helped save them from the drop.

His club's 0-0 draw with Lillestrom meant they escaped relegation and the far-travelled striker received a chunky windfall as part of his deal.

But generous Lafferty decided to share it with his Sarpsborg colleagues rather than pocketing the cash for himself.

Sarpsborg defender Niklas Gunnarsson said: "Kyle told us before the match that if we managed to avoid relegation he would share the bonus. It was a nice gesture."

The club's manager Geir Bakke said: "Yes, I've heard about this! But that's Kyle for you - he's crazy and wonderful."

And captain Joachim Thomassen said: "It was a generous and kind contribution from Kyle. But remember, he can afford it!

"Kyle has a slightly different CV than most people, but he's a fantastic guy.

"It's been fun to play with him and he's been fantastic for a club like Sarpsborg.

"We have a bit of cash in the pot now, so I'm looking forward to having a night out."

Lafferty departed Ibrox on a free transfer before the start of the season.
