Former Rangers star Kris Boyd says tonight's tribute to Fernando Ricksen "more important than game" with Feyenoord

Former Rangers star Kris Boyd admits tonight's tribute to Fernando Ricksen is "more important" than the Europa League group opener with Feyenoord.

The Ibrox club will hold a minute's silence prior to the Group G clash, following the death of their former skipper yesterday.

Ricksen, 43, lost his brave battle with Motor Neurone disease and will be honoured tonight with players also wearing black armbands.

Former Gers striker Boyd was speaking at Ayr Racecourse as he helped make the draw for the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup with ex-Celtic star, Johan Mjallby.

Boyd said: "It's a tough game for Rangers.

"But there are more important things tonight and the tribute will, I'm sure, be very emotional.

"It's a very difficult time for all of Fernando's friends and family and anyone connected with the club and hopefully he gets the send-off he deserves."
