Former Rangers star Alejandro Bedoya makes gun protest during MLS game

Alejandro Bedoya called for Congress to 'end gun violence' as he celebrated a goal in the MLS.

The former Rangers midfielder was playing for Philadelphia Union when he made the call after scoring a goal.

He grabbed a mic at the side of the pitch and shouted "Hey Congress, do something. End gun violence now."

It comes after yet another attack in America with 20 people killed in a domestic terrorist incident.

It happened in El Paso, Texas, while another shooting in Dayton, Ohio, killed nine more just hours later.

It has led to renewed calls for better gun laws in America and Bedoya regularly uses his position to call for change.

He also took to Twitter to share his views when he tweeted: "Seeing more thoughts and prayers bulls***. Words without actions are just worthless. America, it seems, is becoming a dystopian society. Do something!!! Enough!!!.

"I'm not a policymaker either. I'm shouting at those hypocrites to get their s*** together. You want some plans. We can start with stricter background checks, red flag laws, making a registry for gun purchases, closing gun show loopholes, and taxing ammunition. Better for you?"

Bedoya spent one season at Rangers in 2011/12 and played just 13 times scoring one goal while Ally McCoist was manager. He left to join Helsingborgs when Rangers entered division three before earning a move to Ligue 1 with Nantes.

He then returned to the MLS where he linked up with former Gers team-mate Maurice Edu at Philadelphia Union and has since become captain of the club.

He picked up 66 caps for the USA in seven years but hasn't played since 2017.
