Former Rangers No2 Gary McAllister leaves Aston Villa as Steven Gerrard's coaching team exit club

Aston Villa have announced the departures of Steven Gerrard's backroom team including Gary McAllister and Tom Culshaw.

The former Rangers boss was sacked last night following a 3-0 away defeat at English Premier League new boys Fulham. That proved to be the final straw for the club hierarchy who wasted no time after the whistle to announce the big breaking news. The Midlands club invested heavily this summer in the likes of Phillipe Coutinho and Diego Carlos from Sevilla with the moves so far failing to pay off.

The latest defeat leaves Villa sitting 17th in the English Premier League standings with just two wins from 11 games and 9 points on the board. They sit outside the relegation places on goal difference from Wolves after a poor start to the campaign.

A club statement read: "Aston Villa can confirm Gary McAllister, Neil Critchley, Tom Culshaw, Jordan Milsom and Scott Mason have all left the club following the departure of Head Coach Steven Gerrard.

"The club would like to place on record its appreciation to them for their hard work and wish them well for the future.

"First-team coach Aaron Danks will take charge of the team for Sunday’s Premier League match against Brentford at Villa Park and will be supported by additional Bodymoor Heath technical and coaching staff."

CEO Christian Purslow said: “The Board has come to this decision following a full evaluation of results and performances over the calendar year. We were clear when we appointed Steven that we set an objective of continuous improvement but that has not been achieved despite everybody’s best efforts and we believe the time is right to make these changes now.

“The process of appointing a new Head Coach is underway and we will update supporters as soon as possible.”
