Former Rangers midfielder Jason Holt training with Livingston

Former Rangers midfielder Jason Holt is currently training with Livingston - but his namesake Gary says there's been no contract offer.

And the Livi gaffer believes the Covid-19 pandemic has meant that the power has shifted towards the clubs with so many players out of contract.

Holt, who spent last season on loan at St Johnstone before being released by his parent club, has been keeping fit during pre-season with the Lions and while the boss didn't rule out the possibility of bringing him on board he said no discussions had taken place.

He commented: "We gave Jason an opportunity to come in and train. He asked us could he come in and we have given him the chance to keep himself ticking over and to be part of something instead of training by himself.

"I don’t know if there is a chance for a deal, we haven’t spoken about it, we have just given him the opportunity to come in and train and be part of the group.

"There is nothing worse than being on your own, you want to be playing with the ball in a group. So that’s the opportunity we have given him. We will have see what’s what but we know where he is and he knows where we are, so we will wait and see."

He added: "When I first came in, and even last year, agents were saying their players wanted this and that before we got a look at them. They didn’t want to come in and train.

"Now players are happy to come on trial. If people have some sort of pedigree then we will give them a chance, as long as they add quality to our group.

"In these times there are a lot of players out of work who are willing to show they want a jersey. The ball is maybe back in the club’s favour that the wages can be structured instead of players demanding X amount as they know there is someone else who wants the chance."
