Former Rangers midfielder becomes Lanark United gaffer's first signing

New Lanark United gaffer Jamie McKenzie has made former Rangers midfielder Gordon Dick his first signing at Moor Park.

The 28-year-old joins the West of Scotland League Conference C side ahead of today's clash at Glasgow Perthshire, having played three games as a trialist for the Yowes.

McKenzie was unveiled as gaffer on Monday and has moved quickly to bolster the squad, with more expected to follow the arrival of the ex-Cambuslang Rangers and Albion Rovers man, who left Rangers in 2012.

McKenzie told Lanarkshire Live Sport : "He played the last two games I watched and he did really well.

"We've got a lot of young boys in the team, so it's important that we get some experience around about them and Gordon is a good player.

"I watched him at training at the other night and he was brilliant. The Rangers experience is a big thing.

"I knew him at Cambuslang as well, so he's always been a good player.

"Maybe the legs have gone a bit as he's got older, but he can still play and he'll really help the younger ones come on.

"I had been speaking to Lanark for the last couple of weeks and took the games in just in case I got it, and Gordon did really well.

"It made sense to sign him and keep the continuity there."

McKenzie has already warned the current crop at the club that he expects to bring in his own players, but insists he will give players there the opportunity to prove themselves.

He added: "Every manager wants to bring their own players in, which I will do to boost the quality a bit, but there's no rush to make loads of changes.

"This will be my first game and we'll probably see what happens in the next week or two after I've given the rest of the players a chance."
