Former Rangers & Kilmarnock ace Kirk Broadfoot set for SPFL return

Kirk Broadfoot is reportedly set for a return to full-time football.

The former Rangers and Kilmarnock is said to be set to join Morton.

The 38-year-old spent last season with Open Goal Broomhill, making the step down to the Lowland League for part-time football.

However, the Scottish Sun says that Dougie Imrie has convinced the highly-experienced centre-back to make the jump back up to full-time football in the Championship.

The Ton have Jack Baird and Darragh O'Connor at centre-back in their squad, although are looking to bolster their numbers ahead of pre-season. It's said that Broadfoot fits the bill.

The UEFA CUP runner-up with Rangers has worked with Morton assistant Andy Millen before, spending several years together at Kilmarnock.

Broadfoot of course turned out for Morton's Renfrewshire rivals St Mirren in a brief spell during the 2019/20 season.

The report also states that former Killie defender Calum Waters is also set to sign a permanent deal at Cappielow having spent the last six months on loan.

Imrie is looking to strengthen his squad having already secured new deals for Jai Quitongo, Liam Grimshaw, and Calvin Miller.

There were rumours that Broadfoot was going to join up with Si Ferry and Mick Kennedy on their new venture together at East Kilbride, but these appear to be wide of the mark.
