Former Rangers goalkeeper Cammy Bell retires as he leaves Queen's Park

Former Rangers goalkeeper Cammy Bell has announced his retirement from football after leaving Queen's Park.

The one-time Scotland cap has decided to end his career after battling back from injury and failing to secure the No. 1 spot at Hampden.

He played second fiddle to Willie Muir on his return and didn't make an appearance in Mount Florida since joining the club in January.

Manager Ray McKinnon was full of praise for the goalkeeper, and said: “I’ve worked with Cammy at both Dundee United and Falkirk before he joined up here at Hampden. He has been a pleasure to work with and a model professional.

"I know Willie and Jacques have benefited enormously from having Cammy around the squad”.

Bell started his career at Kilmarnock and spent seven years there before joining Rangers in 2013.

He spent three years at Ibrox but lost his place in the team after the 6-1 aggregate defeat to Motherwell in 2015.

He returned to Kilmarnock before spells at Hibs, Patrick Thistle, St Johnstone and Falkirk before finally ending his career at Queen’s Park.
