Former Rangers defender Lee Hodson a target for Hamilton Accies

Hamilton Accies are interested in signing former Rangers defender Lee Hodson.

According to reports this morning, gaffer Brian Rice is close to securing a loan move for the 28-year-old, who is currently with English League One outfit Gillingham.

Accies are rock bottom of the Scottish Premiership following defeats to Celtic and Ross County and Rice is keen to bolster his defensive options ahead of Wednesday's trip to face an understrength Aberdeen side, impacted by two positive Covid-19 tests last week.

Eight of the squad must self-isolate, however, meaning Scott McKenna, Jonny Hayes, Matty Kennedy, Craig Bryson, Sam Cosgrove, Mikey Devlin, Dylan McGeouch and Bruce Anderson will all miss out.

This follows a public apology by the 'Aberdeen 8' at the weekend.

Hodson, who also spent time on loan at St Mirren last season, first came to Scotland in 2016 when he joined Kilmarnock on loan.

He then spent two-and-a-half years at Ibrox after being signed by Mark Warburton, making 17 appearances.

It is understood he is keen for a return to Scotland after falling out of favour at Gillingham, who are managed by former Accies player Steven Evans.
