Former Rangers boss Mark Warburton names the one Celtic star he would've loved to have at Ibrox

Mark Warburton has named Tom Rogic as the one Celtic player he'd have loved to see at Ibrox.

The former Rangers boss was struck by the playmaker's ability during his spell in Scottish football.

Rogic scored Celtic 's equaliser in the 2016 Scottish Cup semi-final before missing the decisive penalty that sent Warburton's side through to the final.

But the now-QPR manager was mightily impressed by the Australian international nonetheless.

He told The Scottish Sun : "It’s not really good for a Rangers manager to talk about Celtic players. But I would say Tom Rogic.

"He had the cleverness and the technical ability to unlock defences and was a fine player in the derbies I experienced."

Warburton maintains he and his coaching team would've closed the gap on Celtic given time.

He left Ibrox in February 2017 with Brendan Rodgers' record-breaking side 19 points clear at the Premiership summit.

But Warburton is adamant patience was needed to lessen the financial advantage held by the Parkhead side.

He added: "I’ve no doubts (we would've closed the gap), none whatsoever. I always emphasised the financial gap, the need to lessen the disparity between the spending power of the two clubs and the absolute requirement for time and patience to build a strong and sustainable challenge.

"The simple fact is that Celtic and Brendan Rodgers had their record year, unrivalled in their history, and people panicked.

"I spoke about ‘regressing to the norm’ and was mocked by certain so-called ‘experts’ up there.

"But that is exactly what happened. Time is the one commodity not afforded to managers in Glasgow."
