Former Rangers and Kilmarnock star linked with first managerial job

Ian Durrant has been touted as a potential replacement for the East Kilbride management job.

The former Rangers and Kilmarnock star has links with Kilby and Paul Thomson, Sports Editor at our sister paper East Kilbride News reckons he could throw his hat into the ring for the vacant position.

Stuart Malcolm departed the K-Park side this week to take the reins at Forfar Athletic.

And now the hunt for a new boss is on after a poor start this campaign for the Lowland League champions.

They lie in eighth position - 16 points behind leaders Kelty Hearts.

But the EK News also reckon there's a chance that Durrant is too close to the owners at Kilby which may put him off.

Thomson said: "Former Dumbarton boss Stevie Aitken has been out of the game for over a year and a move to K-Park could provide a way back.

"He teamed up with Rangers hero Ian Durrant at the Rock and Durrant could either throw his hat into the ring or try to rekindle his partnership with Aitken.

"However, Durrant, a familiar face around K-Park at home matches, is close friends with the Kilby owners and that may put both parties off a working relationship."

Durrant has been caretaker twice, at Rangers in 2007 and Dumbarton in 2018.
