Former Rangers and Kilmarnock star Kris Boyd getting set to run half marathon for charity

Kris Boyd will need to be as fit as ever as he is getting set to run a half marathon for charity.

But it will be a run with a twist as he will set off from Ayr United's Somerset Park and will head to Kilmarnock's Rugby Park.

The Killie legend will be raising money for his own Kris Boyd Charity, as well as the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation which is close to his heart after his former Rangers teammate Fernando Ricksen died of the disease.

Speaking on the Lockdown Tactics Facebook page, Boyd said: "After Robert Snodgrass challenged me to my 10k, I decided to up it to a half marathon.

"I am going to run it on June 27 from Ayr United's stadium Somerset Park to Kilmarnock's Rugby Park.

"It's all in aid of two fantastic charities, the first one is the Darby Rimmer Foundation who are doing some fantastic work around MND, and having lost an ex-teammate, Fernando Ricksen, to the horrible disease it is very close to my heart.

"And also I will be raising money for my own charity who are continuing to raise awareness and help a lot of people struggling with mental health.

"Any donation, big or small, would be greatly appreciated."

Boyd joked: "For someone who wasn't fit throughout their career and having hardly trained since I retired it will be difficult.

"But I am up for the challenge, however if anyone has any spare oxygen tanks send them this way as I might need them!"
