Former Rams hopeful Luis Perez back in Los Angeles as XFL QB

Luis Perez was a fan favorite last offseason after the Los Angeles Rams signed him as an undrafted free agent. He was waived as part of final cuts, much to the disappointment of Rams fans everywhere, but he landed on the practice squad … for two more weeks.

He played in the AAF last season and spent time with the Eagles and Lions this offseason, but he was waived by Detroit before the season began. His NFL career has been put on hold, but he’s still playing quarterback.

Perez was assigned the quarterback of the XFL’s franchise in Los Angeles, the Wildcats. He was the first-ever member of the team, joining the Wildcats before the XFL’s draft on Tuesday.

The league released a highlight video, welcoming Perez to Los Angeles (again).

Perez has the tools to play in the NFL, but his experience is limited and he’s still a raw passer. He’s gaining valuable time on the field by playing in the AAF and XFL, though, which could help him down the line.

He was a star at Texas A&M-Commerce where he threw for 5,001 yards and 46 touchdown passes his senior year in 2017. He completed 70.6 percent of his passes that season, too, which created some pre-draft hype for the small-school stud.

The XFL season kicks off next February, the weekend after Super Bowl LIV.
