Former Rams DE Chris Long retires after 11 NFL seasons

Former St. Louis Rams defensive end Chris Long is retiring from the NFL after 11 seasons. He spent the first eight years of his career with the Rams before joining the Patriots in 2016. He was a member of the Eagles the past two seasons.

Long holds the rare distinction of winning consecutive Super Bowls with different teams: He won his first with New England following the 2016 season and another the next year with the Eagles.

In his career, Long had 70 sacks, 333 total tackles and 85 tackles for loss. He scored one touchdown, a 45-yard fumble return in 2013. He was named the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2018 for his remarkable community work. In 2017, he donated his entire base salary — worth $1 million — to educational charities, and last season he donated a quarter of it.

Long, 34, entered the league as the No. 2 overall pick in 2008 by the Rams.
