Former Raiders safety SS Karl Joseph to join Cleveland Browns

Another first-round pick by the Raiders will not get a second contract with the team. Former 14th overall pick Karl Joseph has agreed to terms with the Cleveland Browns. The deal was first reported by Josina Anderson and confirmed by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport who added that it was a one-year deal.

Joseph had an up and down four-year career in Oakland. He was drafted as high as he was despite coming off a major knee injury in his senior season at West Virginia. Recovery from the injury caused him to come in late to training camp and he admitted later that in his rookie season he played timidly.

His second season was his only one as a full-time starter, appearing in 15 games. He finished with 79 combined tackles and an interception.

After he got off to a good start last season, he missed the final seven games to injury. He never played in all 16 games with the team, missing 15 games over four seasons.

Signing a one-year deal makes sense for Joseph who would like to show he can be the player he showed flashes he could be and re-enter the market with great demand next offseason
