Report: Ex-Raiders K Sebastian Janikowski retires after 18 seasons

After 18 seasons in the NFL, former Oakland Raiders first-round pick Sebastian Janikowski has decided to call it a career, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Janikowski played 17 seasons for the Raiders after being selected No. 17 overall in 2000, making 80.4 percent of his kicks. He made a record 55 field goals beyond 50 yards, with the longest being a 63-yarder in 2011 that tied the league’s all-time record.

Two seasons later, the Broncos’ Matt Prater nailed a 64-yarder in Denver to claim the record.

Janikowski made his only Pro Bowl in 2011, making 88.5 percent of his kicks and making seven of 10 field goals beyond 50 yards.

After sitting out the 2017 season with a back injury, he made 22 of 27 field goal tries in 16 games last year with the Seattle Seahawks. He suffered a leg injury on a long field goal attempt just before halftime of the Seahawks’ loss to the Dallas Cowboys and did not return.
