Former Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio observes Saints practice

The New Orleans Saints welcomed another guest at training camp practice this week, with former Oakland Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio making an appearance on Tuesday. Del Rio was first spotted by Herbie Teope of the Advocate leaving the practice field alongside defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who preceded him as both Raiders head coach and Denver Broncos defensive coordinator earlier in their careers.

Del Rio was fired by Raiders owner Mark Davis after the 2017 season, and has spent the time since networking and interviewing for head coaching vacancies around the league. Both Allen and Del Rio were candidates for the open Cincinnati Bengals job, but it ultimately went to former Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor.

New Orleans has been a hotbed for coach observers during this year’s training camp. Tulane Green Wave head coach Willie Fritz visited Monday, just days after LSU Tigers coaches Dave Aranda and Joe Brady. Purdue Boilermakers head coach Jeff Brohm and his staff were guests of the team during minicamp practices earlier this summer. The Saints are clearly a team that coaches on the outside want to get a good look at.
