Former Queen of the South striker makes history with winner against Faroe Islands

Former Queen of the South striker Lyndon Dykes continued his red-hot Scotland form with the winner against the Faroe Islands.

The QPR frontman scored for the fourth match in a row on Tuesday night and in doing so equalled the scoring streak record set by legend Colin Stein in 1969.

He said: “It’s great hearing stuff like that. I’m feeling really good in myself. I feel like I can score goals and at the moment everything is just happening for me.

“It wasn’t the best game, but I just tried to keep making those front-post runs and the little deflection today hit my shoulder and went in top corner. I’ll take them all day.

“We got there in the end. I’m happy to get the goal and it was good to get the win for the fans that came as well. We got the win and that’s what matters.”

Once again Dykes had his celebrations cut short for a VAR check for handball but the goal was eventually given.

His strike helped the Scots strengthen their hold on the World Cup play-off spot but he won’t get a chance to build on his record against Moldova as he is now suspended.

He added: “It’s really annoying. I knew I was on a yellow card for a suspension for a while now and obviously going for those headers I jump with my arms.

“I didn’t mean to catch him and then I was trying to be as nice as I could to the ref to not get the yellow card.

“At least that’s it out of the way, and we’ve got enough quality in the team to hopefully beat Moldova and put us in a great place to qualify.”

Grant Hanley also returned to the starting line-up on Tuesday night as Scotland recorded another clean sheet, their third in four games. Steve Clarke’s side complete their qualifiers on November 12 and 15 away to Moldova and at home to Denmark.
