Former pupil turns his school car park into foodbank drive-thru

A school’s car park was turned into a mobile depot to collect provisions for the South Ayrshire Foodbank.

Kieran Holroyd is an ex- pupil at Marr College in Troon. The 16-year-old

and his pals set up a drive-thru in the empty drop-off zone.

And they gathered in a ton of food in just two hours on Thursday.

Now they are making it a regular thing.

Kieran’s mum Jacqui is an NHS midwife in Ayrshire.

Bags and boxes full of non-perishable food were left  – even toilet rolls.

WW (Weight Watchers) stock was left by coach Nadia Riccomini.

The 28th Ayrshire (Troon) Scout Group donated food they would normally have used at camps.

Jacqui said: “We thank the people of Troon for their generosity.

“The Foodbank was hugely grateful for all these wonderful donations.

“I also want to thank my son Kieran for organising the dri-thru and his wonderful volunteers for helping.

“I am so proud at what they have done.”

Another drive thru has been arranged for tomorrow (Thursday) noon to 2pm, and the plan at the moment is for it to continue during lockdown.

People do not even need to get out of their cars as the volunteers can take it out of the boot.

South Ayrshire Foodbank said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank Kieran Holroyd who organised the drive thru food donation point at

Marr College.

“Thanks also to everyone who very kindly turned up to donate. We have the most amazing community spirit and it certainly shows when the chips are down.”
