Former Punjab dy CM OP Soni's arrest nothing but vendetta politics, says Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa

CHANDIGARH: Leader of opposition in Punjab assembly Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday condemned the arrest of former deputy chief minister O P Soni and accused the Bhagwant Mann government of misusing the state machinery to target and defame the Congress party leaders.

The senior Congress leader criticised the AAP government’s drive against corruption, alleging that it is "merely an act of vendetta politics". He said the Mann government’s intention behind the drive was to divert the attention of the people from its failures and deceptive actions.

"Timing is the key. Whenever the AAP government is questioned for its failure and mismanagement in incessant rains, it initiates action against the leaders of the opposition. There’s a pattern to the AAP action, whenever its leadership starts getting exposed, they initiate action," Bajwa added.

He also accused the AAP of double standards. On one hand, they accuse the Congress and on the other, they seek support from it on the ordinance brought by the BJP-led central government, said Bajwa.

"Besides the AAP’s Punjab unit leaders, legislators and ministers, senior AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia, Styendra Jain and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, are also facing serious corruption accusations," he said.

Bajwa further said the ED had attached properties worth Rs 52 crore of former deputy chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia, his wife Seema, and others, in the Delhi excise policy scam case.
