GURDASPUR: Former Punjab cabinet minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan, 71, died on Wednesday following prolonged illness.
Former minister in SAD-BJP government, he had on August 26, joined AAP at Sekhwan village of Gurdaspur.
‘AAP required his political acumen’
Sekhwan was expelled from SAD in November 2018. After he parted ways with SAD, he was part of a triumvirate with Ranjit Singh Brahampura and Rattan Singh Ajnala who had formed SAD (Taksali).
Later, he joined the Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led SAD (Democratic) and then became senior vice-president of SAD (Samyukat), formed following the merger of SAD (T) and SAD (D).
AAP spokesperson Gurbhej Singh said, “It’s very heartrending news, people of Punjab needed his vision and AAP required his political acumen but unfortunately he has left for heavenly abode.”
Gurbhej Singh said that late Sekhwan was keeping unwell for the past over six months. He is survived by his wife and four children.
