Former psychiatric hospital near Glasgow turned into 'Gotham Orphanage' for The Batman filming

Excitement is at fever pitch among Glasgow movie fans as  filming of blockbuster The Batman continues in the east end of the city.

Scenes for the film, starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, are being filmed in and around The Necropolis and Glasgow Cathedral, with film crews first spotted back on Thursday of this week by Glasgow Live  setting up for the shoot with props such as 'road trash' and lamposts.

And now it has emerged that filming is also underway for the superhero flick at the old Hartwood Hospital in North Lanarkshire.

Villagers in Hartwood, near Shotts, received letters a few weeks ago from Warner Brothers advising that filming would be taking place.

While a pair of film enthusiasts who went for a look around within the old hospital grounds stumbled across a catering truck and movie trailer - containing what looks like the Batsuit worn by Robert Pattinson in the first look revealed by Director Matt Reeves last week.

Alongside that they spotted some signage for the scenes, suggesting that the old hospital will play the part of 'Gotham Orphanage' in the movie.

The sign, which looks like it has been there for years, reads 'Gotham Renewal Corporation - Investing in our future - Gotham Orphanage'.

The news comes as a stuntman dressed as Batman was spotted during filming at the Necropolis as shooting got underway at the Victorian cemetery yesterday.

It sure is exciting to see and hear that Glasgow and the surrounding area will feature as Gotham on the big screen.

Especially since it feels like we really do live in Gotham given the dreich weather we are having!
