Former prisoner who was caught on CCTV selling drugs again avoids jail

A former heroin dealer who was caught on CCTV selling cannabis has avoided jail.

Marvin Dhers was caught on camera drug dealing in the foyer of a bookmakers in Lincoln Green in Leeds at 5pm on April 16 last year.

Prosecutor Andrew Horton said the 39-year-old, who has been to prison three or four times, was 'very annoyed and began sucking his teeth in disgust' when an officer approached him and accused him of drug dealing.

Dhers, of Cherry Court, Burmantofts, Leeds, began walking towards Cromwell Street and kept trying to leave.

Leeds Crown Court heard he was 'not happy to be touched' but was searched and was found in possession of £60 worth of skunk cannabis, £30 in cash and a phone.

Scales were found in his home.

In his interview, he claimed the cash was his winnings from the bookmakers.

Dhers, who has 13 convictions for 35 offences, pleaded guilty to supplying a controlled drug and possession with intent to supply a Class C drug.

Judge Tom Bayliss QC told Dhers it was clear the offence was part of an 'ongoing operation', adding: "You were caught red-handed selling cannabis in Leeds."

He was ordered to complete a 12-month community order and 250 hours of unpaid work.
