Former prison chef at helm of new Battlefield community cafe

Coffee-lovers on the southside have a new spot to get their caffeine fix as well as grab a bite to eat with the opening of a new cafe in the Battlefield area.

Common Ground takes over the premises vacated in January by Cornerstone Coffee Bar on Battlefield Road.

The cafe aims to be at the centre of the Battlefield community and become a meeting point for people living in the area - hence the name.

With a real focus on using local produce and suppliers while also encouraging the re-use and recycling of items alongside it to help reduce waste.

And at the helm of the cafe will be Neil Bolland, who has a background in the hotel and restaurant industry and spent the last 20 years working as Catering Manager in Kilmarnock Prison.

Having closed for a week for refurbishment, Common Ground will reopen tomorrow (Saturday, October 12), and will be open seven days from 8.30am to 4.30pm.
