Former President Trump narrowly avoided a serious injury to the facial nerve during an incident at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The facial nerve is crucial as it innervates the muscles of the face, including those responsible for smiling and facial expressions.
Dr. Houman Hemmati, who examined Trump's condition, noted that despite the close call, Trump seems to be able to smile normally and maintain facial function. However, there appears to be a missing portion of his ear, which may require reconstructive surgery for cosmetic purposes.

The facial nerve, which branches out near the ear, plays a vital role in facial movements and expressions. In Trump's case, the injury seems to have spared the nerve itself, allowing him to retain normal facial function.
While the missing portion of the ear may be a visible reminder of the incident, Hemmati believes that any necessary surgical intervention would likely be focused on cosmetic restoration rather than functional rehabilitation.
