Former Premier League striker makes bizarre admission over Leicester City vs Arsenal result

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent has insisted he hopes Arsenal lose to Leicester City if it results in Unai Emery being sacked.

The Gunners take on the in-form Foxes at the King Power Stadium on Saturday tea-time, with all eyes on the under-fire visiting boss.

Emery is under growing pressure at the Emirates after three-consecutive draws, games which Arsenal had led in all three.

After heavy investment into the squad in the summer, Arsenal are six points behind Saturday's opponents Leicester and London rivals Chelsea in the race for Champions League football.

A defeat on Saturday could leave them nine points behind their top-four rivals, which would leave Emery staring down the barrel of a gun.

Ex-Spurs striker Bent, who supporter Arsenal, has insisted that if defeat to Leicester ensured a change in the manager's dugout, he would be pleased.

The former England striker told talkSPORT: "If it meant Arsenal lose the game and Emery going, I'd rather that then they somehow get a result and Emery still being the wrong man in charge. They take on step forward and five steps back just because they have got one result.

"I think maybe for the benefit of the football club, they lose this game, Emery goes and they can start fresh again.

Leicester v Arsenal: Unai Emery press conference

"Just because of the long-term plan, at the minute, he is not the right man to take the club forward. If they want to go forward, rather than get a result again Leicester, and I'd love us to beat Leicester, but for the long-term plan of the football club, I don't think he's the right man. If it takes something extreme like that for him to go then I am all for that.

"I never want to see my team lose but you may have to take a step back to go forward."
