Former Premier League referee offers verdict on Leicester City vs Spurs decisions debate

Leicester City fans have been up in arms this afternoon after a heavily debated first half at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs led at half-time somewhat against the run of play thanks to a remarkable goal which saw Harry Kane fire home despite lying on the deck after contact in the box.

But Leicester had the ball in the back of the net before Kane's opener, only for offside to be eventually given to rule out the goal.

Youri Tielemans shot from outside the box, with Paulo Gazzaniga, who replaced Hugo Lloris from the start for Spurs, parrying the shot into Ayoze Perez's path.

Perez chipped the keeper before Wilfred Ndidi tapped home, only for VAR to be consulted and the goal disallowed, much to the frustration of the home fans.

Former referee Peter Walton, however, insists that the call was correct.

"When Tielemans shoots everyone thought it was a good goal. Perez was interfering with the goalkeeper, however, thus an offence," Walton told BT Sport.

The Perez call was one of three big decisions in the first half but Walton insists they were all correct.

Moussa Sissoko was adjudged to have fouled James Maddison shortly after. Despite getting the ball, the midfielder followed through on Maddison, with some suggesting that his feet were elevated.

Danny Rose also had a penalty turned down after a coming together with Leicester defender Jonny Evans in the box.

"There were three big decisions in a mad two-minute spell. I thought he (referee Paul Tierney) got all three decisions correct," Walton added.

"Sissoko came in at full pelt. It's reckless and it's a yellow card.

"Rose has instigated the contact on the penalty shout but under immense pressure from the home crowd, Paul Tierney got it right."
