Former Premier League manager makes bold Liverpool trophy prediction after transfer claim

Glenn Hoddle believes the signings Liverpool have made in the summer transfer window gives them a great chance to win the Premier League and the Champions League this season.

The Reds won their first top-flight title in 30 years last campaign, a year after securing their sixth Champions League crown.

Jurgen Klopp was not settling with that, though, and has added three new players during the transfer window.

Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota have all arrived at Anfield this summer, as the Reds look to achieve back-to-back titles, as well as progress in Europe.

After being drawn against Ajax, Atalanta and Midtjylland in Group D on Thursday evening, Hoddle made a bold prediction concerning Liverpool ’s domestic and European fate.

The former England boss said on BT Sport’s coverage of the draw: “I think they’ve improved the squad no-end, I really do. I think Jota came out of the blue, but it’s a very shrewd buy.

“Thiago, well he keeps the ball for fun, and in that Liverpool side, I think they’ve gone up a couple of more gears, that’s why I think they’re my favourites to win the Champions League this year and possibly the Premier League as well.

“It’s a big ask, but that would be an unbelievable achievement if they could do that. I think Liverpool are the best team in Europe with the balance in the way they defend and the way they attack, it’s not just all about attacking with Liverpool - they’re solid defenders.

“We’ve seen Fabinho go in the back four the other day, he was outstanding. They’ve got options all around the pitch. Players like Oxlade-Chamberlain, they’ve got a depth now, he’s a great player, but he hasn’t had a chance.

“They’ve really got a squad there that I think could win the Premier League and the Champions League.”

Liverpool have won three out of three of their opening Premier League games this season, beating Leeds United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

The Reds are next in league action at Aston Villa on Sunday evening, as they look to maintain their 100% record.
